Earlier this month the mountain club traveled to the French Alps on a week long mountain bike holiday.

The group travelled from Edinburgh on Saturday morning and arrived in Les Arcs in the afternoon. The five star accommodation provided a great environment to relax and chill while enjoying great food. The balcony overlooked the valley and the chalet was equipped with seven bedrooms with en-suits, hot tub, steam room, sauna, free wi-fi, soft drinks bar and much more.

The first day of riding was a great introduction to the vast network of trails and technical riding. With hundreds of kilometers of trails the day was packed full of mountain biking. The diverse verity of trails provided a challenge for even the most skillful riders. After a fantastic day the group returned to the accommodation for dinner, cake and a well earned rest.

On the second day the club split into two smaller groups. The younger group went on several rides with uplifts while the older group took on the famous H.E.I.D.I. trail. First introduced in 2006, the acclaimed High Exposure Isère Descent Itinerary is a 60km long, all off-road, 80% singletrack route descending from the Col de l'Iseran at 2764m (Europe's highest road pass, situated above Val d'Isère) right down to the Isère Valley base at 800m. Along the way we pass through a world of trail variety containing scenery to take your breath away and ancient Savoyard villages such as the protected site of Le Monal.

On Tuesday the groups swapped over and the younger group took on H.E.I.D.I. while the older group did several uplifts. All was going well until one of the group riding H.E.I.D.I. fell down a 50m rockfall breaking his leg in two place. After an hour at the bottom of the rockfall the local mountain rescue winched him off the hill and carried him to safety.

The next day, one member down, the group traveled to a water sports center where they enjoyed a day of white water rafting and canyoning.

The rest of the week was a great success with some epic riding and fantastic activities. The whole group would like to thank the trail addiction staff who made this holiday amazing. Special thanks  to Ben, Rich, Pat and Leslie for great guiding and Jim and for the amazing food. The members of the club would also like to thank Miss Wallace, Mr Armor and Mr Isherwood for making this trip possible.
